NBA Lockout 2011 News Update: LOCKOUT IS OVER! NBA 2011 season to take place!
What is the new deal that the NBA players and owners agreed to? The deal is for 10 years, although both sides have the option of opting out after six years. The players will make no higher than 51 percent of the revenue, which is down from 57 percent. This difference would account for nearly $3 billion over the length of the deal.
This new deal still is pending final approval of the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), but a truncated 66-game NBA regular season should be starting on Christmas Day. On Christmas, five NBA games will be played, and televised on TNT, ABC, ESPN, and two others to be announced later.
The 2012 NBA season will extend games to April 26th, 2012, and the NBA Playoffs will begin two days after that. There is a possibility of back-to-back games during the second round of the NBA Playoffs, with each team having at least one, but no more than three back-to-back-to-back games during the regular season.
All NBA teams will play 48 conference games and 18 nonconference games. Teams will not travel to every NBA arena.
December 9th marks the day free agents will be able to begin signing contracts.
Interesting NBA Lockout money fact:
Financial analysts predicted that the shoe industry would lose $500 million if the NBA Lockout had continued and cancelled the entire season! Wow! How many shoes do these guys go through!? That is a crazy amount of shoes!
Ouch, some of the pains of the Lockout are that some players went to play overseas in China, and the Chinese Basketball Association is not showing any inclination to let those NBA players out of their contracts before the end of the season in March! The player that went to play in Spain, Turkey and France are able to come back to play in the NBA season.
Overall, it seems like all is in order for the NBA to start their games soon. We'll see how fans respond. Do you think people will attend games, or do you think fans will be leary at first?

NBA Lockout 2011 news update: Games canceled through December 15, 2012
The NBA locked-out players filed class-action antitrust lawsuits against the NBA on Tuesday in at least two states, which brings the whole issue to federal court. The players are doing so because, as their attorney, David Boies, says, "...the NBA lockout violates antitrust laws by refusing to allow players to work."
If the players win, it is said that they could win up to 3 times the amount of money the players would have made playing this season.
How do you feel about the NBA Lockout? Are you a heated fan, pissed off that you're missing the season, or could you care less that NBA basketball is currently not playing? Do you think the players are being greedy? The owners? Both?

2011 NBA Lockout news
The two sides of the NBA Lockout tried negotiating for nearly 11 hours yesterday. The NBA presented a proposal to the players that needs to be agreed to by next week, and could result in a 72-game season that would begin on December 15, 2011.
NBA Commissioner David Stern said, "There is nothing left to negotiate about." Stating that they have, "done everything possible that was possible to do."
If the two sides of the argument cannot come together on a decision, it is reported that players will quickly move toward decertifying the union or issue a disclaimer of interest, either of these options would allow the players to file antitrust litigation that would more than likely jeopardize the whole 2011-2012 NBA basketball season.
So far, the NBA Lockout has lasted 134 days, as of last Friday, and has been the result of 221 preseason and regular season games being canceled.
Hopefully, the answer to peoples question, "When will the 2011 NBA season start?", or, "When will the NBA Lockout end?" will be December 15, 2011. We'll see what happens in the next week with the current proposal.

Did you know that the Target Center has a "parent's room" for some events, for individuals who are not going to be going to the event themselves? You do need to call ahead of the event to see if a parent's room will be available. There is no charge to use the room. What About Other Lockout Workers?
If the lockout persists and more than just the preseason is cancelled, you're talking about lost jobs and collateral economic damages. The loss of games will mean loss of jobs for waitresses, bartenders, hotel workers and others who count on the NBA season for their paychecks.
Players and owners will be alright, but will everyone else?

Target Center waiting for NBA Action
When the NFL was in potential-lockout mode, it was all anyone could talk about. Fans were staying updated on free agents, rookies and the daily negotiations. There were news posts everyday and an endless stream of questions signaling fans couldn't get enough information.
The NBA lockout? Not so much.
What's the deal? It appears fans don't care so much about the NBA lockout and that they would rather check their football fantasy draft instead. Are people 'over' the NBA or is it just the frustration of standstill after standstill and the NBA just happens to be the most recent in a long stream? Very few people care about the lockout.
I think there exists a combination of both a lack of interest and a surplus of disgust. Owners and players need to be careful and realize with the economy and so many other options to steal away a fan's disposable income, that they don't think it will always 'just work out'.
What do you think? Give me your thoughts! I would love to hear them.

NBA Lockout and the Target Center
The last time the NBA had a lockout was for the 1998-1999 season... back when Dr. Jack Kevorkian was found guilty of second-degree murder, Internet Explorer version 5 was released, Y2K was a huge problem and bluetooth was announced.
How did that lockout work?
The basic agreement was reached on January 6th and was finalized later that month on the 20th. At that point the lockout officially ended. Training camps opened and negotiations with free agency players began, even the pre-season games followed within the week. The 50-game regular season started on February 5.
There was 30 days between the agreement and the beginning of the regular season. This season is set to start on November 2. To keep the timeline, we would need to get everything in order by October 2.
Can it happen? What are your thoughts?
At least the Target Center will remain the Target Center as the arena and the corporate giant renewed their naming agreement; the Timberwolves will have a home to return to!

Minnesota Lynx Likely First Round Opponent
So the Minnesota Lynx have clinched this best record in the WNBA and now are just waiting for the WNBA playoffs. The Lynx should be able to make their way out of the Western Conference fairly easily considering they cruised through the regular season. As of right now, their likely first round match up is with the San Antonio Silver Stars. The Lynx are 4-0 this season against the Silver Stars. The Silver Stars are right behind the Phoenix Mercury and hopefully Phoenix is able to hold them off because the Lynx match up much better with Phoenix. Interesting tidbit, the Lynx play the Mercury for the last game of the season, shouldn't the Lynx just let the Mercury win so that they don't have to play them in the final game? I think so.

Minnesota Lynx Magic Number Down to 1
The Minnesota Lynx are one game away from clinching the best record in the WNBA. They are so good it's scary. One Lynx victory over the next four games or 1 loss by the Indiana Fever and the Minnesota Lynx will have clinched the best record in the entire WNBA. They beat Washington in the Target Center 73-56. This team is scary good and I can't wait for the playoffs. People should definitely try to get some tickets for the playoffs because who knows how far this team will go. I could definitely see them winning a WNBA championship. Can't wait for the parade!

Lynx Edge Out Victory Over Tulsa
Taj McWilliams-Franklin led the Minnesota Lynx to a 78-72 win Tuesday night against the Tulsa Shock.
This was a huge win for the Lynx because you never want to be the team that the Shock end up beating. The Tulsa Shock have an WNBA record 19 game losing streak going here.
McWilliams-Franklin had a late block that sealed the deal for the Lynx with 19 seconds to go in the game.

Minnesota Lynx Torched by Connecticut Sun
The Minnesota Lynx suffered a crushing loss to the Connecticut Sun and got absolutely torched 108-78 in Connecticut.
It sure seemed like the Lynx players were nervous. Especially Maya Moore, who attended the University of Connecticut and starred there for four years. She only managed to make 1 of the 7 shots she took against the Sun.
The Lynx are still 18-6 and in prime position to capture the number 1 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs.

Mercury End Lynx's 9 Game Win Streak
The Minnesota Lynx did all they could Sunday night, but still didn't come away with a win. The Lynx lost 85-80 to the Mercury in Phoenix on Sunday night. They got all the performances that they needed from their stars, but Diana Taurasi came away with a critical steal with just 20 seconds remaining in the game.
Maya Moore led the way for the Lynx with 28 points while Seimone Augustus poured in 26 points of her own.

Maya Moore Continues to Wow Lynx Crowd
The Lynx will meet second place San Antonio on Sunday afternoon and again Thursday at the Target Center.
What is at the core of the Lynx's success? Or should I say who... Maya Moore. Moore has solidified her place as an emerging super star. Alongside Seimone Augustus, who just became the WNBA's fastest player to reach the 3,000-point mark, it appears that Maya Moore and the Lynx are serious contenders emerging to knock on the championship-door.

All Star Game Recap: All Four Lynx Play Well
Four Lynx played in the WNBA All Star game on Saturday afternoon in San Antonio. Here's how each of the players did:
Maya Moore: Scored 10 points on 5-15 shooting. Also recorded three steals, assists, and rebounds. She played for close to 23 minutes. She was the first rookie to start since Tamika Catchings and Sue Bird both did it in 2002.
Rebekkah Brunson: Started in place of Candace Parker. Efficiently scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. It was her second All Star appearance.

Minnesota Lynx are in First Place???
The Minnesota Lynx beat the mighty Phoenix Mercury last night. The Minnesota Lynx are now in first place in the WNBA. This is huge for the franchise. They were led by Seimone Augustus, who led the team in scoring with 25 points. Lindsay Whalen and Maya Moore chipped in 16 points as the Lynx won 106-98. At one point, they led 88-73 with a little over 8 minutes to go. The Lynx ended the Mercury's 5 game home winning streak.
Wow the Lynx are bossy. Hopefully they can keep this up and then they'll bring home the WNBA Championship baby!

Minnesota Lynx Dominate Sun with Huge Third Quarter
Maya Moore had a breakout game as she scored a career high 26 points against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. It was a match up of two second place teams in their respective conferences. The Lynx arre in second place in the Western Conference while the Sun is in second place in the Eastern Conference.
The Lynx only led led by one at half time. And the the third quarter happened. The Lynx outscore the Sun 23-6 in the third quarter on their way to a 90-67 shellacking of the Connecticut Sun.
The Lynx are now 7-3 and are still in 2nd place in the Western Conference.

The Minnesota Lynx are Actually Really, Really Good
The Lynx are so good. They got a much needed win against Tulsa and are now 6-3, good for second place in the Western Conference. With Maya Moore and Simone Augustus on the team, they are just pretty darn bossy. They absolutely slaughtered Tulsa 101-71, forcing 27 turnovers.
So if your looking for something to do, head down to the Target Center and watch the dominating Lynx. They are absolute studs and are going to win the WNBA Championship.

Timberwolves Exercise Options for Wesley Johnson, Lazar Hayward, Wayne Ellington
The Minnesota Timberwolves have announced today that they are exercising the options for Lazar Hayward, Wesley Johnson, and Wayne Ellington. One of them makes sense, the other two don't. By exercising the options, they guarantee that the wolves will be able to keep them all through the 2012-2013 season.
They had to pick up the 3rd year option for Wes Johnson. It was an obvious move. He was pretty good last year and has a ton of potential and they invested a ton of their future into him.
Lazar Hayward? Are you kidding me? Here's the problem I have with this, this is an example of Kahn simply being stubborn. Admit you screwed up with Lazar Hayward and that he isn't an NBA player.
Wayne Ellington makes some sense. He is a pretty good three point shooter, something this team needs, but he is nothing more than that. You just have to say when you're making these decisions. is this guy a part of our future? The answer with Ellington is clearly no.
Hopefully the Wolves made the moves in hopes of trading these two guys, but here's what I think: they won't get jack back for these two. Nobody wants them.

Within 24 hours of the Lynx using thier No. 1 draft pick on Moore, the Lynx sold more than 150 new season tickets and added a sponsor on the media backdrop for the first time in franchise history. Not to mention, social media and website activity for the Lynx increased 400%.
With Moore in the fold, the Lynx have already secured a place in history this season, selling out their first preseason game in franchise history. Let's see what the Lynx will have to offer for the remainder of the season.

Target Center, no longer ‘Target Center’?
“According to Timberwolves officials, Target Corp. hasn't made a decision yet whether it will continue to hold the naming rights on Target Center when its contract runs out at the end of September. The Wolves have 14 years left on their lease with the city and would prefer a 14-year naming rights contract…Life Time Fitness, which has a health club in the arena, is reported to be one of the leading candidates if Target doesn't renew.”
My reaction: I guess that means this blog might have to be shut down. Uh, oh.

Timberwolves officials say they’re in ongoing talks with multiple companies, including Target, and that the list includes both local and national companies.
The Business journal reports Life Time Fitness Inc. as among the companies vying for the deal. Best Buy and U.S. Bancorp are also possibilities."
