Next Target Center Concert is over a month away, why the Target Center Schedule is so empty and why Target Field may be to blame

Anyone who is even remotely connected into the big concert scene in the Twin Cities has recognized that the Summer Concert Schedule for the Xcel Energy Center far outweighs that of the the Target Center.

Just for a starting point, the Target Center does not have a concert on the events calendar for over a month. The next Target Center Concert is Daughtry, on May 19th. In contrast the Xcel Energy Center has Taylor Swift, James Taylor and Brooks and Dunn all before that May 19th concert. There has been lots of speculation as to why the Target Center didn't pull in big names for the spring and summer concert series this year, everything from artists don't like the Target Center to the Xcel Energy Center has better sound... in my opinion those types of answers just don't float, the Target Center has had lots of great concerts many of which have been reported to have amazing sound.

I genuinely think that Target Field may be to blame... with such a focus placed on the Minnesota Twins this season and making sure that Target Field got off on a good foot, the Target Center took a back burner... understandable when you consider the full-time resident of the Target Center (the Minnesota Timberwolves) and their season end struggles. However, because of the Target Field buzz, Target Corporate may have to face some sad financial facts when the summer concert numbers come in later this summer.

Target Center may have slow concert schedule but Great Events like Cirque coming to Target Center

Cirque performers in human pyramid

The Target Center's concert schedule is lacking compared to other Twin Cities concert venues. However, there will be lots of great non-concert events this spring and summer. One of the best non-concert events coming to the Twin Cities is Cirque du Soleil ALEGRIA. Cirque du Soleil is the magical carnival/circus experience that pairs amazing special effects with truly talented artists to create a one of a kind experience that should not be missed.

Cirque due Soleil ALEGRIA "has a baroque and operatic style with flamboyant costumes, original music performed live and an elaborate set that serves to enhance the astonishing spectacle of athleticism and artistry. The result is an impressive mix of skill, strength and speed combined with elegant, almost ethereal performances."

Get your Cirque du Soleil Tickets today and be a part of the "circus" experience that has captivated the world.

The Minneapolis Target Center set to get a green roof

The Target Center in an effort to be more eco-friendly is proposing a Green Roof. The plan would include a growing zone 2.75 inches thick for much of the 115,000-square-foot main roof and 3.5 inches in a 32-foot-wide edge where there's more structural support...

The investment, will take longer to become cost effective than the current Minnesota Timberwolves contract is slated to last, begging the question if it really is a good investment. Some critics are saying that the structure may not be suited for a green roof and the Target Center is doing anything and everything it can to stay in the press and viable while it loses the scheduling battle for summer concerts with the Xcel Energy Center.

Target Center Events Calendar still lacking compared to the Xcel Energy Center Events Calendar...

Question Marks
The Target Center is going to be a quiet place at the end of the Minnesota Timberwolves season. What used to be a war of the venues between the Target Center in Minneapolis and the St. Paul Xcel Energy Center, has turned into a one sided fight. The Xcel Energy Center Events Calendar is full of great concerts through out the spring and summer. The Target Center Concert Schedule is VERY VERY empty, except for Daughtry and Nickelback.

I'm really curious as to why the Target Center is so quiet. If you know anything or have even heard anything please let me know, as a personal fan of the Target Center over the X, I would love to know why the two schedules are so radically different.
